Between Skyscrapers of Emotions - Fine Art Destination Wedding Photography in New York
Traveling to the city that never sleeps for the wedding of Jovan and Florian at the Skylark wedding venue was definitely one of my top 3 highlights of 2018. After experiencing the mellow and relaxed vibes of Bali, the rush of New York, the dynamic energy of a place so diverse that it really takes some time to get used to, has changed my perception of what it means to live in a multicultural mega city. Right from the get go, the minute I stepped off the plane onto the subway, a new world opened up. A world that is defined by acceptance, diversity and opportunity. However, also one that is battling the increasing isolation and anonymity between people and fighting the vast gaps in society; between the super rich, people who afford a whole floor in Trump tower only for their cats, and the bitterly poor, people working two jobs to afford a tiny apartment in the basement of the outskirts. As for the wedding it was a dream come true to capture the special connection that Jovan and Florian share in a place that magnified their wedding celebration.
The Skylark Wedding Venue - Between Times Square and EMpire State
Even trying to compare the Skylark to any of the wedding venues I have had the pleasure to experience is almost impossible. There was the incredible Amanusa Resort in Bali, there was a private castle in South Tirol and there were many beautiful Palais in Vienna, however nothing that has struck my mind like the Skylark. The venue combines everything that needs to be for celebrating a world-class wedding. It is situated directly at the heart of Manhattan, has incredible views from all over the place, and most of all, surprised with impeccable interior design. As much as I loved looking at the Empire State Building from the south end and looking down on Times Square from the north end of the building, I most enjoyed how well the colours of the furniture, the art on the walls and the architecture features blended together for a truly "New Yorkish" experience. In addition to the view and the architectural features, the management lead by Charles and his team was fabulous. Organisation and service were on point and everybody was very welcoming and helping.
Getting Ready - for another beautiful day in their lives
The getting ready took place at two different locations. First, I accompanied Jovan at the Sofitel in New York on 44th street, where she was surrounded by her closest family members. Shooting a getting ready always offers so many possibility for beautiful moments and shots. Everybody is really excited and it is almost as you could capture the amazement floating through the air. Later we moved to the Skylark, where Florian was already waiting with his best men. There we had a fantastic room with wide open glass front windows that stretched around from one corner to the other. Florians brother and Jovan's dad joined for a round of pool to calm the nerves of the groom. It was then that I captured one of my favourite getting ready pictures of all time, with the gentleman standing behind the pool table. Take a look further down and let me know if it has the same impact on you :)

Family Portraits - Lifetime Memories
Even though family portraits can be a rather stressful part for a wedding photographer, they are also extremely important for every couple. It is the images that you will have printed out on the shelves of your living room, remembering you about this day and all your loved ones for the rest of your lives. Also for me, taking family portraits has been a steep learning curve, something that I start enjoying more and more. It is all about giving the family members the time to relax and feel comfortable in front of the camera. It is also about taking time to position the and direct them for a perfect outcome. As I felt so close to Jovans and Florians family, it was easy to relate to things that made them laugh and smile, which always helps.
